AI Summer School 2026 Successfully Concluded at Astana IT University

From June 15 to 21, 2026, Astana IT University successfully hosted the third International AI Summer School 2026, bringing together leading experts, researchers, representatives of business and the public sector, as well as students from Kazakhstan, Europe, the United States, and China.

The summer school was held in the context of 2026 being declared the Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. In his address, the President emphasized that Kazakhstan must become a digital nation and that the adoption of artificial intelligence is one of the key drivers of economic growth, public administration, and social development. One of the country's top priorities is preparing highly qualified professionals capable of effectively working with modern AI technologies.

In response to these national priorities, the NNEF Public Foundation, together with the University Alliance of Science and Technology, which includes Astana IT University, KBTU, the International Information Technology University (IITU), and UIB, organized AI Summer School 2026—an international educational platform focused on the practical application of artificial intelligence technologies.

Throughout five intensive days, participants explored the latest developments in AI through lectures, hands-on workshops, panel discussions, and team projects. The program covered cutting-edge topics including Generative AI, Agentic AI, Multi-Agent Systems, and AI Governance, as well as the practical application of AI in healthcare, finance, education, agriculture, and industry. Special attention was given to the development and implementation of AI agents, digital literacy, leadership competencies, and interdisciplinary teamwork.

A highlight of the program was the MIT BootCamp, led by Professor Munther A. Dahleh, Founder and the first Director of the MIT Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (MIT IDSS). Participants gained first-hand insights into global best practices for implementing artificial intelligence in government, business, and scientific research from one of the world's leading AI experts.

“Today, it is not enough to simply use artificial intelligence—it is essential to understand both its capabilities and its limitations. AI can analyze vast amounts of data, support scientific research, and automate routine processes. However, critical thinking, scientific ethics, creativity, and leadership remain uniquely human qualities. Our summer school is dedicated to achieving this balance between technology and people,” said Altair Akhmetov, Rector of Astana IT University.

Astana IT University's partnership with MIT marks an important milestone in the development of Kazakhstan's national AI ecosystem. The university became the first partner of the MIT IDSS Strategic Partnership in Education program across Eurasia, providing Kazakhstani professionals with access to world-class educational programs and international expertise in artificial intelligence and data science.

AI Summer School 2026 once again confirmed Astana IT University's position as one of the country's leading centers for education in artificial intelligence and digital technologies. The summer school served as a platform for knowledge exchange, international collaboration, and the development of a new generation of professionals who will contribute to shaping Kazakhstan's digital future.
